TRAINEESHIP OPPORTUNIES WITHIN BIRMINGHAM CITY COUNCIL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 16-24 WHO DO NOT HAVE A LEVEL 3 QUALIFICATION

WORKING with Birmingham City Council, gaining loads of amazing hands-on business administration or customer service job experience. On successful completion of the programme the young person will be guaranteed an interview for a well-paid Apprenticeship post with one of the largest organisations in the region. 

 There are 80 traineeship opportunities; 40 available in Business Administration and 40 available within Customer Services. 

The  12 week traineeships are unpaid, travel expenses will be provided.  The hours are 3 days per week placement plus one day in college – total of 30 hours per week.

No qualifications are needed but a ‘can do attitude’ is a must and successful candidates will need to demonstrate:-

A willingness to work accurately and efficiently

Basic keyboard skills for data entry

Ability to work flexibly as part of a team

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION ROLE

The Birmingham City council Business Administration role will give young people an opportunity to gain unpaid work experience during a 12 week programme.  The programme will provide experience within the organisations departments, which provide administration and clerical support to staff.

 

During the Traineeship programme, the Business Administration trainee will spend 12 weeks learning about the following activities in each:

General clerical tasks which may include switchboard and reception cover

How to place orders for stock and monitor stock levels  

Learn to operate and maintain administrative systems within each organisation e.g. monitoring, recording and processing of sometimes confidential information

Understand why  confidentiality is maintained regarding information processed and the importance of the Data Protection Act.

Learn about health and safety policies and understand how to report any issues as they arise.

Understand the importance of working as part of a team to ensure cover of all aspects of clerical support

Learn how to update files and data ensuring that data quality, archiving, retention and any information which is distributed meets data protection requirements.

 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSISTANT ROLE

The Customer Services Service Assistant role will give young people an opportunity to gain unpaid work experience with Birmingham City Council during a 12 week programme.  The programme will provide experience within a call centre setting dealing with external customers

 

During the Traineeship programme, the Customer Service Assistant  role holder will spend 12 weeks learning the following

 

How to provide advice to our customers on services available from the Council

How to answer telephone calls in a professional manner

How to listen attentively to customer requirements to gain a full understanding of the customer need.

How to assess and resolve enquiries, requests and complaints, to ensure that customer

enquiries are resolved at first point of contact.

How to refer unresolved queries for further action as necessary

How to follow call scripts and advisor guidance and respond empathetically to customers

How to operate and maintain are range of administrative systems           

The importance of maintaining confidentiality of personal information and the Data Protection Act.

How to update files and data ensuring that data quality, archiving, retention and any information which is distributed meets data protection requirements.

Understand the importance of working as part of a team to ensure cover of all aspects of clerical support
